Certification training in Montreal, Canada

The PMP is not an entry-level exam. PMI opens the application through two routes, and the one that applies to you depends on your degree. With a four-year degree, you need 36 months of experience leading projects within the last eight years. With a secondary diploma or an associate degree, that requirement rises to 60 months. Both routes also require 35 contact hours of formal project management education, or a CAPM certification held and valid.

The exam itself runs 180 questions over 230 minutes, covering the three domains of the current Examination Content Outline: people, process and business environment. Roughly half the questions describe predictive situations and half describe agile or hybrid ones, which is why our preparation does not treat agile as an optional appendix.

You have two options and neither requires leaving the province. The online proctored exam is taken from home, at a time you book yourself, including evenings and weekends. The alternative is a Pearson VUE test centre; there are several in the Montreal area and others in Quebec City, Laval and Gatineau.

PMI delivers the PMP exam in a number of languages, and a language aid is available alongside the English questions. Candidates in Quebec commonly sit the exam in English with the French aid enabled, which is one of the reasons our courses use the official English terminology alongside the French one throughout. Knowing that an OPA is an actif organisationnel is not enough on exam day; you need to recognise the term in the wording of the question.

Every course runs in two formats and the content is identical. In-person sessions take place at our offices at 85 rue St-Paul Ouest, in Old Montreal. Live online sessions run over MS Teams with the trainer present throughout; they are not recordings.

Sessions aimed at the Canadian market are scheduled on Eastern time, which matters more than it sounds: a course planned on West African time starts at four in the morning in Montreal. The calendar converts every published time into your own time zone, so what you see is what you attend.

The PMP is valid for three years, and renewal requires 60 professional development units over that cycle. PDUs are earned through training, professional practice and contribution to the profession, in proportions PMI publishes in its Continuing Certification Requirements.

Courses taken with an Authorized Training Partner count towards those PDUs, which is worth planning for: many holders discover the requirement in the last months of their cycle and end up paying for units under time pressure.
