Why earn the CAPM in Dakar
Dakar hosts the headquarters of Senegal's largest companies and regional offices of international organizations. Construction, energy, telecom and banking regularly hire project coordinators, junior project managers and planning officers. Major infrastructure works, energy transition programmes and network rollouts create structured demand for project management skills. The PMI CAPM signals foundational knowledge in predictive, agile and business analysis frameworks without requiring the extensive experience the PMI mandates for the PMP. Employers in these sectors value a common methodology for steering timelines, budgets and stakeholder expectations. Large multinationals and donor-funded projects increasingly list PMI credentials as preferred qualifications in job postings for project support roles.
Funding your training in Senegal
Every employer in Senegal pays the Contribution Forfaitaire à la Charge de l'Employeur (CFCE), set at 3 % of the payroll. This contribution feeds the Fonds de Financement de la Formation Professionnelle et Technique (3FPT). A company can apply for funding through the 3FPT online platform by proving CFCE compliance and nominating at least three training providers. The fund covers part of the preparation cost; the balance is borne by the employer or the employee according to internal agreement. Keeping CFCE receipts is essential, because the 3FPT systematically requests them during the review. Self-employed professionals are not eligible through the company window, but they may negotiate support with a prospective employer or budget the cost as a career investment. Senegalese labour law also allows a training bond of up to four years, protecting the employer's investment.
PMI eligibility and exam format
To sit the CAPM exam, the PMI requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, hold a secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) and complete 23 hours of project management education before the exam. These requirements are listed on the official CAPM page.
The exam contains 150 multiple-choice questions, 135 scored and 15 unscored pre-test items. You have 180 minutes. It is available in French among other languages. The exam fee is USD 225 for PMI members and USD 300 for non-members, payable only after application approval. The fee difference between member and non-member rates often justifies the annual PMI membership for candidates planning further certifications. To maintain the credential, holders must earn 15 Professional Development Units (PDUs) during each three-year cycle through learning, teaching, volunteering or content creation.
Taking the exam from Dakar
The PMI offers two delivery options: at a Pearson VUE test centre or online with remote proctoring. Atypix operates the Pearson VUE centre in Dakar (code 90280) at its Point E premises, 4th floor, Immeuble EPI. Candidates living in Dakar can schedule an in-person session without travelling abroad. The physical centre provides certified workstations and a quiet, monitored environment. Online proctoring remains available for those who prefer a private space that meets technical requirements. Dakar runs on Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+0) all year, making it straightforward to book slots that fit standard local working hours.
Training schedule in Dakar
The CAPM preparation runs in person at the Atypix Dakar agency in Point E. It covers the 23 hours of education required for PMI eligibility. Sessions welcome working professionals and final-year students. The timetable follows the city's rhythm: training days run either consecutively or in modules depending on the scheduled intake. Participants review exam content in the same rooms where they later sit the test, which reduces pre-exam stress. Because the exam centre is in the same building as the classroom, candidates avoid traffic delays and last-minute logistics.
From CAPM to PMP
The CAPM provides a stepping stone toward the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. The PMI recognizes an active CAPM certification as satisfying the 35-hour training requirement it sets for PMP eligibility. Professionals in Dakar who target senior project roles can therefore sequence both credentials, building on the same foundational preparation.
